From the album Pedalling In The Fast Lane
"This is track/poem that was inspired by the Mel Gibson film 'When We Were soldiers'.
The names involved and locations of these wars may have changed over the years but the real objectives and misinformation put out by the military, politicians and general mass media to disguise and hide these objectives remains the same."
The lives of the many for the whim of the few
The tears of the loved ones to satisfy who?
As the sun sets and the rivers turn red
Who knows the real reason why so much blood is shed?
Last post is sounded and flags lowered to half-mast
The dead are now heroes who fought to the last
They made the ultimate sacrifice for the alleged good of mankind
But what of the families these pawns left behind
And I wonder if war would be such a sought after stunt
If our celebrated leaders actually led from the front
So come on Dubya, please tell us why
Explain why the minions are destined to die
Explain why the innocent have to be blown apart
Bones crushed under tanks, limbs severed, trampled hearts
Tell those people whose lives you’re so willing to trade
The real motives you have for the decision you made
Home of the brave and land of the free
How about freedom from aggression by your military
The regimes you funded aren’t as servile as before
It this why you insist on your ludicrous wars?
